By Louca-Mai Brady,
As usual, we started off our in-person meeting with some ice-breakers and introductions, including writing our name tags and drawing a little picture of something we enjoyed. One of the funny ones in my opinion was cheese!
Sheila’s hypermobile Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (hEDS) Research
First, Sheila talked to us about hEDS and how it affects people with it. She also told us about how there isn’t enough research about children with hEDS, including that there isn’t enough child-friendly information about it. Sheila then asked us about what we thought would be a good medium of conveying the information. Our main suggestions were a poster, infographic or story book as they are not too writing-heavy, and include lots of pictures and colours.
SALIENT
Claire from SALIENT joined us next to show us an online survey website called Intake 24, used to show the nutritional info about what people are eating. As we all filled it out together, we had a laugh at the absurd units of measurements and the way we had to scroll for 30 seconds to find tap water! I found the nutritional value of what I eat very interesting, though I may have forgotten what I had for breakfast that morning.
Blog posts/Evaluation
After that, we talked about how we will be writing these blog posts in the future. We decided to start co-writing them with the whole group.
YPAG 3rd Birthday Party!
Finally, we celebrated the 3rd birthday of the YPAG group! We ate cake and pizza, delicious as always. We also did a ‘research quiz-themed pass the parcel’ and made bracelets, and that concludes another amazing YPAG meeting!
