Kent, Surrey & Sussex YPAG meeting – Saturday 22nd November

By KSS YPAG,

The Kent, Surrey & Sussex Young People’s Advisory Group (YPAG) group met on Saturday 22nd November at the Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital in Brighton. They heard a presentation by Dr. Ian Male , a Consultant Paediatrician at SCFT, on a Neurodevelopment Pathway project.  The project is proposing to look at which neurodevelopmental assessment pathways improve support, experience and outcomes for neurodivergent children and will involve a PPIE (Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement) group of young people.

The YPAG gave feedback on how the researchers can make best use of meetings with young people and enable their views to be heard and and on how the study might be designed to ask young service users about their experience of neurodevelopmental assessment. Dr. Ian said “it was so helpful to be able to talk ideas with the young people as to what our PPIE for young people group should look like and how we could run the PPIE ”.

The meeting also included a refresh and review activity looking at how research participant information is provided for children and young people. We thank all our members for their support and engagement in helping researchers and look forward to seeing everyone in the new year.
