How should YPAGs members get a say in research funding?

By Development Officer,

The Nuffield Council on Bioethics recently published its report – ‘Involving children and young people in health research – getting it right’.  One of the recommendations in the report is: “People who choose what research studies to fund must make sure that children, young people and parents are involved in these choices.”

YPAGs can’t make any input to decisions about what research is funded.  The decisions have already been made by others before studies come to YPAGs for their input.

What should members of YPAGs do to make sure they are involved in choices about what research is funded, as recommended by the Nuffield Council?
